For young people on a small budget it is almost impossible to find a place to live in Amsterdam. It is our mission to provide them with their first opportunity on the housing market. These newcomers are between the ages of 18 and 28 and sign a temporary lease contract for social housing. This is a lease contract for maximum five years.
Signing a five year lease agreement
If you sign a temporary lease agreement, you will be provided with a new Woningnet registration, for the Dutch online social housing distributing system. Your accumulated waiting time prior to leasing your current housing, will not elapse and continues to accumulate. As long as you pay your annual registration renewal fee, your waiting time continues to accumulate. The longer your waiting time, the greater your chance of finding new housing before your current lease agreement ends.
Your next step
As a newcomer, you can lease your apartment with us for a maximum period of five years only. During these five years, you’ll have to search for new housing before the end date. This might be (temporary) social housing or private market housing. As long as you are under 28 on the you can also look for another youth contract.

With your accumulated waiting time, you can look for new housing www.woningnet.nl or through one of the other housing distributor sites you have registered with. As long as you are under 28 on the effective date, you can also look for another five year lease agreement.
- If you are not eligible for social housing
You can look for housing in the private sector, share with a friend or buy an apartment. Please check amsterdam.mijndak.nl, www.funda.nl of www.pararius.nl.
Opportunities for newcomers
A Youth Contract is available for newcomers on the housing market between the ages of 18 and 28, with a small budget. We terminate your lease after five years, in order to provide as many newcomers as possible with the opportunity to live in Amsterdam. During those five years, they will accumulate waiting time for the housing distribution system. In addition, these five years provides newcomers with the time to decide what their next step will be. A lot can change in five years, some people form relationships and want to move in together, many see salary growth.
