Do not make it easy for pests to take hold
It is your responsibility to take action against insects such as ants, mosquitoes, mice, flies, fleas, wasps, bedbugs and silverfish. How can you avoid these kinds of pests?
- All pests are attracted by mess and leftover food. Make sure that your home is kept tidy and clean. Dispose of refuse regularly and keep all waste bins properly closed.
- Store your food in sealed containers and jars.
- Do not feed birds from the balcony or in the garden. Pigeons can be a source of major inconvenience, and any leftover bread attracts rats into the garden.
- Treat pets for fleas regularly, as well as your house.
When should I seek help?
- If you find a wasp’s nest: do not touch it yourself, and contact the Pest Control Service of the municipality.
- If you discover rats or pigeons outside your home, contact the Infestation Control Division of the Public Health Service in Amsterdam or Diemen.
- If you have cockroaches or ants, submit a repair request.
- In case of (honey)bees: contact a beekeeper to remove the bees safely. You could contanct Stichting Bijenpark Amsterdam or Beekeeper association Amstelland.
